Karla Murillo was born and raised in Guayaquil, Ecuador. At the age of 6 she started her formal training in ballet at the Raymond Mouge Thoniel National School of Dance; after 10 years of intensive training and performances she went on to become a teacher for 3 years. Because of her training and achievements, she was awarded a scholarship from the University Espiritu Santo where she graduated with a BFA in Classical Dance. During this time she further developed her skills in ballet, contemporary, jazz and participated in several performances with the University.
Her passion for dance and commercial styles brought her to the dance reality show “Fama o Drama” where she reached the semifinals. From there on she has been dancing for commercial marketing campaigns with companies such as Nestle Fitness, LG and TC Television, guest performances at the Miss Ecuador beauty pageant and toured Ecuador with Venezuelan pop singers “Los Ultimos de la Clase”.
In 2011, Karla moved to Monterrey, Mexico to be part of the dance corps for the “Ballet Metropolitano de Monterrey” and as a teacher in “Freeman Dance Training”.
Looking to develop her career internationally, she moved to New York a year ago. Since then she has continued to train in different styles such as street jazz, theater jazz, latin fusion and contemporary floorwork. She is part of the company “Latin Fusion Dance Project”, which has taken her to performances around Los Angeles, New York, New Haven and Washington.
Her international experience also includes appearances as a dancer in Elvis Crespo’s music video “Vallenato Karaoke” and in “Dick Clark’s Rocking New Year’s Eve 2014” for Univision artists JenCarlos Canela and El Dasa.
